Autumn Snapshot

Autumn is a photographer's dream season. The colours, the sun, the rain, the sky, the wind and shadows make for some great photos. Over the last month I've been carrying around my camera so when the opportunity arose I could promptly take a snap.
Here is my snapshot of Autumn 2014.

The Original Cup-Cake

I saw this idea on pinterest yonks ago  and thought it was so cool. As a big fan of puns I couldn't miss the chance to make a literal cupcake as oppose to the actual cupcake.

I made the cake from a Rachel Allen recipe for "divine chocolate cake" and then moulded some ready-made icing around it, not forgetting the handle of course. Lastly I put some yummy chocolate fudge icing on top to give it a hot chocolate/tea facade.

You know what would be super cute? If I made little cupcakes and added handles so I'd have loads of little tea cups. Then you could probably lift the whole cupcake up by the handle!  This cake is just too heavy to be lifted by the handle..... yes, I tried....

Happy Baking!

Ada Lovelace Day

I just wanted to say a very Happy Ada Lovelace Day! Today ( October 14th ) is the day for celebrating all women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It wasn't long ago when these careers were thought of as male professions. Ada Lovelace Day is all about showing how women are just as successful in these areas.

So who is Ada?

Ada was an English woman born in 1815 who had a strong interest in science and logic. When she translated an article on the engine she wrote her own elaborate set of notes which essentially was an algorithm for a machine. Therefore she is said to be the first computer programmer.

As I am studying computer science I obviously take a special interest in this. She's just so cool. I feel like Blair Waldorf now, all for powerful women etc. There's just so many inspiring women out there. Behind Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerburg, Steve Jobs, I bet that you'll find that there are quite a few successful and unheard of women. Just to name a few; Heather Payne, Sarah Kunst, Tracy Chou (heard of pinterest? yeah), Libby Leffler and the woman herself Suw Charmann Anderson.

Happy Lovelace  Day to all my fellow tech savvy people.

September Wrap Up ( and Liebster)

Hello October, didn't see you coming there. Yesterday the sun was shining and now all of a sudden the wind is howling and leaves of red hues are blowing about and crackling under my shoes. I love autumn and its amazing colours. In fact I love all seasons really.  I am very enthusiastic about the seasons and festivities that go with them. So this month I'll be busy wrapping up in warm clothes, reading lots of books by the fire and baking some halloweeny cakes!

Last month (September),  I...

  • started college
  • read the 5th Wave
  • knitted a hat
  • journalled
  • played Sail by Awolnation on piano
  • tried to relearn guitar... fail.
  • cuddled by cat Daisy a lot ( she broke her paw!!!)
  • watched Vlogbrothers
  • and... listened to a lot of cool bands.
My blog posts from September...

well, because I'm so bad ass I'm going to bend the rules a little (and also because I don't know where the button is... EMILY!!) (and also also because I don't think I'm following ... 11 blogs....)

I'd love to visit The Night Circus.

Game of Thrones, 1984, Gone Girl, Northern Lights, An Abundance of Katherines... just to name a few.
4. What book did everyone else love but you hated?
Hmm... One Day, To kill a mockingbird, Paper Towns ( *please don't hurt me* ).

Hush Hush.
6. Fictional Crush?
Gus from TFioS and probably Patch from Hush Hush.

The Book Thief.
8. What do you do when you're bored?
Watch Gossip Girl, or read, or knit, or read, or draw, or read, or listen to music, or read.

I think the last time was two months ago while watching TFiOS for obvious reasons.
10.  What's your happy song(s)?
Come On Eileen.
11. And finally what's your sad song(s)?
Do you mean what do I listen to when I'm sad or what song makes me sad? Well there's a few that make me feel better when I'm sad; Perfect by P!nk, Don't you forget about me, Brave by Sara bareilles. But every time I hear that religious song "do not be afraid" I always burst into tears. It just always reminds me of funerals. And for an 18 year old I have been to way too many funerals.

Instead of nominating 11 people I'm just going to nominate everyone who reads this. Just comment your answers to the questions instead of doing a post... or if you really want to then by all means go do a post.

My Questions.

1. How old are you?
2. 3 favourite hobbies?
3. What are you reading write now?
4. Who is your favourite superhero?
5. Have you ever met anyone famous?
6. What is your most played song on your playlist?
7. Tell me one of your dreams/ ambitions?
8. If you could change your name, what would you pick?
9. Any randoms?
10. What is your favourite movie?
11. Ask me a question, and I'll answer it in the comment.
Anyway, HAPPY OCTOBER!!!
Marian ^_^
